Up here on Sunnyside, it has truly lived up to its name. Not often I have to say, can this really be said, but today has been one of those days when you can look out over the hills and see forever. Today, I am suffereing acutely after creating what I hope is going to be a bit of a herbaceous border. Yesterday, sun shining, hens and gang of four out in the paddock enjoying a bit of a sun bathe, I set too.
Once I've got the bit between my teeth, nothing short of an earth quake will stop me. And now, today, I am of course crippled with a back from hell, having broken the cultivator which I have only used once before. It was meant to be the cultivator which was going last......Lovely long handle, so no bending and points on those prongs that would make you wince. It did the job. I removed clumps of weeds, stones, tree roots and then the head came off.
Now I do still have the old one, nail through the handle, but this one was so smart and new.......... smart and new no longer though. It's either going to have to be superglue or a nail. The trail of destruction didn't end there, however. Today, no prompting needed, before breakfast even, I broke the kitchen radio, merely by trying to turn it on. I have come to the conclusion I might just be a little heavy on things, or things are just not made to last the way they were.
The last time I went to the dentist, he mentioned that perhaps I should ease off on the cleaning. I was being "a bit too vigorous" with the toothbrush....In effect ripping the gums from my teeth. I really don't know my own strength. Well, today, of course I am only too aware of my own strength which is zero as I hobble around, heat pack strapped to my back. Maybe I'll just get out that picnic blanket, sit in the sun and soak it up. Absolutely safe, nothing to fall off and nothing to break. I might even make a plan of action for tomorrow, which will either involve moving a mountain of hay or sorting out a ton of mohair.................Bring it on. There's still one or two more tools left in the shed that aren't broken yet.

yet thee out there and break more tools! Made me laugh at your vigorous approach to gardening, i am much more of the sitting on a cushion and waving a hand at weeds hoping they will vanish
Look after that back try some massage or deep heat. Toady
Oh poor you, hope your back is feeling better and you better get some more tools, stronger the better!
Very impressed with your hard work, can't dig our garden so hard already, clay soil, night mare!
Ditto Toady on clay soil. You have me worn out just thinking about it - I love gardening, but do short sharp bursts rather than marathons. Hope your back feels better after a long hot soak, and it'll all be worth it when you see the fruits of your labours ...
See tattie weazelI think she has some calpol which might help!
We share a lot of favourite books! Have you read the follow-up to the Secret Life of Bees - The Mermaid Chair?
I have a memory like a sieve or I would recommend a few more.....but I'll try to have a think. A really good book is hard to find.
I thought I was good just weeding the path!
PS Also love The Alchemist!
Oh dear - what a day. So sorry about your lovely long tool - I was listening to something about that kind of ergonomically correct tool just this morning. I think that tomorrow might best be a day spent with a really good book, a cup of tea and little activity.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh I do hope your back is a bit better by now - and careful how you type - we don't want to lose you to a busted keyboard.
I know the saying is "Put your back into it" but you really should take care, my old gardener you to say "A spit at a time and it will get done" and I think he was right you know.

Ouch, I could feel your pain, and as for the teeth, my dentist says the same to me,eek!
Good grief you remind me of cowgirl, felt quite worn out by her strength and vitality as well but do miss her blogs still. My eldest has a tendancy to break things likes to test their limits I fear.
The camper sounds great would love to have one and load up the family and just head off when the weather is good.
p.s Alchemist is great I read it one day when I was in bed with severe morning sickness and was so impressed.
I envy you your campervan. What sort is it?
It is hard as I am an impatient person but I only do two-hour stretches in the garden now as I used to get a stiff back from overdoing things.
My little blue Vauxhall Corsa is called Tonto but only because the number plate contains the word somehow, can't remember it exactly! All our other cars were called Daisy May.
